In Pune, the “LearnByDoing” initiative has made a significant impact by offering over 2000 students in 8 different schools the chance to explore science in an interactive and hands-on way. This initiative, supported by the Abhay Bhutada Foundation and powered by Sakar Eduskills, has provided STEM kits to students from underprivileged backgrounds, helping them engage with science beyond traditional classroom learning. These kits have made learning not just fun, but also more accessible and meaningful for young minds.

Understanding the “LearnByDoing” Initiative

The “LearnByDoing” initiative is designed to make science and math education more engaging for students who have limited access to hands-on learning tools. By distributing STEM kits, this initiative allows students to physically interact with scientific concepts, making the learning experience more enjoyable and understandable. Instead of just relying on textbook learning, students are now able to experiment and gain practical knowledge, which is crucial for developing a deeper understanding of scientific principles.

The ultimate aim is to make science learning accessible for every student, regardless of their background, by providing them with the necessary tools to explore and experiment. These STEM kits foster curiosity, promote critical thinking, and encourage problem-solving skills, preparing students for future educational challenges.

The Vital Contribution of the Abhay Bhutada Foundation

The Abhay Bhutada Foundation has played a pivotal role in supporting the “LearnByDoing” initiative. Through their help, over 2000 students across rural schools in Pune have received STEM kits, including those in Bursewadi, Kelgaon, Dhanore, Bahul, Thakarwadi, Bhose, Malegaon, and Sangise. For these schools, this marks the first time they’ve had access to such resources, creating excitement among both students and teachers.

These kits have allowed students from areas where scientific learning tools are scarce to explore science in a hands-on way. Abhay Bhutada’s donation is a significant contribution to the students’ education, giving them the opportunity to experience science outside the confines of traditional learning methods.

Students' Reactions to the STEM Kits

Both students and teachers have shared their positive feedback about the STEM kits. A teacher from Kelgaon remarked that the kits have helped simplify complex scientific concepts for students, making learning both enjoyable and effective. With the opportunity to conduct experiments, students now have a more concrete understanding of science.

A Class 7 student from one of the schools excitedly shared their experience using the STEM kits. They explained how they were able to explore the human body and use a microscope to examine microscopic elements—an experience that was both new and exhilarating for them. For many students, it was their first time using scientific equipment, and this exposure has sparked a genuine interest in the subject.

The Power of Hands-on Learning

One of the most valuable aspects of the “LearnByDoing” initiative is the emphasis on hands-on learning. Traditional educational methods often focus heavily on theoretical knowledge, but the STEM kits give students the chance to learn by doing, which has proven to be a much more effective approach.

By engaging in experiments and practical applications of scientific principles, students are able to develop a deeper understanding of the subject. Moreover, hands-on learning nurtures important skills like problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork, all of which are vital for personal and academic growth.

Ensuring Equal Access to Education

The “LearnByDoing” initiative is helping to bridge the gap between students from different backgrounds, particularly in rural areas where access to educational resources is limited. Many students in these communities do not have access to science kits, labs, or other tools that are necessary for interactive learning. Through this initiative, the Abhay Bhutada Foundation has ensured that students in underserved areas have the same opportunities to engage with science as their peers in more privileged areas.

This initiative is not just about providing students with kits—it’s about giving them the chance to level the playing field and compete on equal terms with students from better-resourced schools. By helping to bring these resources to underprivileged communities, the initiative is playing a crucial role in enhancing educational equity.

How the Initiative is Influencing Families

The “LearnByDoing” initiative is also making a difference in the lives of students’ families. In many underprivileged households, parents may not fully understand the importance of education. However, when students begin to bring their excitement for learning home after using the STEM kits, parents are more likely to encourage their children to continue their studies.

Seeing their children enjoy and succeed in their education can inspire parents to take a more active role in supporting their academic journey. As a result, the initiative is having a positive impact on not just the students but their families and communities as well.

Looking Toward the Future of Education

The “LearnByDoing” initiative has already made a lasting impact, but there is still much more to come. With the continued support of the Abhay Bhutada Foundation and other organizations, the program is expected to reach even more schools, offering more students the opportunity to experience science through hands-on learning.

As this initiative grows, it will continue to foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking among students, giving them the skills they need to succeed in science and other fields. With the support of organizations like the Abhay Bhutada Foundation, these students are being empowered to shape a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
